An Instance of Umbria

I am in the process of putting together a couple of stories for a project, so I’ll keep this brief and mysterious. Over the Christmas holidays, my husband and I visited Umbria.  And, I will tell you now, so far it’s on the top of my list for favourite region in Italy.  The people are … Continue reading

Chewy Molasses Cookies

You might hear me say this again, but, “These are my favourite cookies!”  I might have just lied, but I don’t know it yet, because right now I believe it. After two and half years of living in the Netherlands, I haven’t make anything but almond cookies, chocolate chip cookies and cut-outs – not because … Continue reading

Veg in Bins

I just wanted to share with you, some photos of veggies in blue bins, as well as some cheese.  We visited a farm in Genneper Park, this past weekend and they sell the veggies that they grow and the meat and cheese they produce on-site.  Happy Monday, everyone!  Have a great week! -Cassie

Paris Streets

Alright, this will be the last post about Paris.  You won’t have to think about it for a long time, unless you want to. This post has a simple theme.  I think you’ve already gotten that from the title.  These are views of Paris streets and a quick look at the places we’ve been around … Continue reading

Food(AKA…Life) in Paris

Food in Paris is important.  And, it is excellent.  And, obese people are few and far between.  And all of those svelte people start drinking wine at noon.  Why does this matter?  Well, it’s interesting and delicious and maybe its smart.  Our October “holiday” was last week and we ate and ate and ate.  And … Continue reading

So, here are some photos – some legitimate photos.  Not just some iPhone snaps to make people jealous of my dinner.   But, to be fair, I don’t know what white balance this should … Continue reading

(Green)Gelderland in the Netherlands

Just a couple of months ago, our friends invited us up to Gelderland.  If you have only heard of Gelderland in A Knights Tale and thought that it was a made-up place, well you’re not alone.  Oh, and it’s a real place.  When I told them about this movie and my obvious global ignorance, they … Continue reading

Cookies: Brutti ma Buoni Meringhe con Cioccolato (Ugly, But Good Meringues with Chocolate)

My mother-in-law, Alberta, makes a TON of Brutti ma Buoni, every year for Christmas.  Hers is a completely different recipe; one with whole eggs and a flour made from various nuts that she picks up from the butcher, only during the holiday season.  They are delicious with a cup of coffee to dip them into, … Continue reading

Ragu (As interpreted by the clever American wife of a Roman)

I cook.  A lot.  Every day.  From scratch and never from a box or the freezer.  Martha Stewart is my homey(…not really). Food is important in my house.  And by no fault of my own, I married a really picky Roman man.  Yes, he’s really from Rome… which is in Italy.. and he speaks Italian.. … Continue reading

Paris

My husband’s good friend from University, Leo, moved to Paris last year.  He went through the same weather shock that my husband(also a Roman) went through when we moved to the Netherlands.  “Where is the sun!?”   Despite the rain and clouds, Paris is Paris, romantic and old, and strong and beautiful.  I had been … Continue reading
